This depends on conditions and what part of the growing season we are in. Typically you do not want to cut your cool season grass shorter than 3 to 3 1/2 inches in height, so measuring your lawn can be your best indicator of when it’s time to mow.

Watering practices are key! It is best to water less frequently and for a longer time. Grassroots follow the water–if you water deeper, the roots will go deeper. If you water every day for a little bit, the roots will stay shallow and, during the hot season, your grass will quickly begin to struggle with the heat and dry conditions. It is good to try to keep 1/2 inch to 1 inch of moisture on your lawn per seven days.

Once you schedule your season of mowing with Emerald, we will take it from there. We typically work for 10 hour days, Monday through Thursday. This way we have Friday to pick up and cover our routes if we have delays, breakdowns, or rain. Our goal is to never have to mow a wet lawn, but that’s not always possible. We’ll take care of your lawn, rain or shine!

The best prep a homeowner can do is pick up any items that are in the lawn, such as toys, sticks, or animal droppings, and mark sprinkler heads. If you have a sprinkler system or any area in your lawn that could become damaged by the aerator, please let us know and mark the area!

If at all possible, you should never bag your clippings. Mulching is 100% the best practice. Grass blades that fall back down when mulching will reduce thatch and nourish the grass that is growing.

Yes! In fact, we prefer it that way, because it allows us to avoid disrupting or causing any problems if you are trying to do something in your home. Everyone knows how hard it is to nap when a lawn mower is running outside!
